Here is the crochet pattern for the cowl I made to match my Stained Glass Slouch and Stained Glass Fingerless Gloves.

Featuring the striking millstone stitch, these items look beautiful by themselves or stunning as a whole set.

Stained Glass Cowl Free Crochet Pattern

This colorful cowl is sure to keep you warm and cozy this winter. The design features the millstone stitch, worked in a beautiful variegated colorway, contrasted with dark grey to give the appearance of a stained glass window.

Loops & Threads Wellness Baby (fine weight; 70% acrylic, 30% Amicor acrylic) in Charcoal (MC), Loops & Threads Joy DK (light weight; 100% anti-pilling acrylic) in Tropical (CC)

You will need crochet hook size E/4 – 3.5mm, tape measure, yarn needle to weave in ends.

Approx size: 29” long and 12.5” wide.

This pattern uses US terminology.

Stitches and Terms Used: Single crochet (sc), half-double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), front post double crochet (FPDC), back post double crochet (BPDC), foundation single crochet (FSC), back loop only (BLO), slip stitch (sl st), main color (MC), contrasting color (CC), wrong side (WS)

START HERE

With MC, FSC 69 (60 for pattern, 9 total for edges). Ch 1 and turn.

Row 1: Sc in BLO of 1^st 4. FPDC around next changing to CC on last loop of dc. Drop MC to back of work (do not cut or carry).

With CC and working in both loops, *sc in next, hdc in next, dc in each of next 5, hdc in next, sc in next. Ch 1 and skip next.

Repeat from * finishing with sc (5 stitches before end) and changing to MC2 (use other end of MC or 2^nd skein of same).

FPDC around next, sc in BLO of each of remaining 4 stitches. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 2 (WS): Sc in BLO of 1^st 4. BPDC around FPDC of previous row changing to CC. Drop MC2 on side facing you.

Working in both loops, *sc in 1st, hdc in next, dc in each of next 5, hdc in next, sc in next. Ch 1 and skip next.

Rep from * to cuff, finishing with sc and changing to MC on last loop. Drop CC on side facing you. BPDC around FPDC of previous row.

Working in BLO, sc in last 4, ch 1 and turn.

Row 3: Sc in BLO of 1^st 4, FPDC around BPDC of previous row (do not change color).

Working in both loops, *sc in each of next 9, dc in skipped stitch of foundation (row 9 when repeating).

Rep from * across finishing with sc in last before finger edge allowance and changing to MC2. FPDC around next, sc in BLO of each of remaining 4 stitches. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 4 (WS): Sc in BLO of 1^st 4. BPDC around FPDC of previous row changing to MC. Drop MC2 on side facing you.

Working in both loops, sc in each across until cuff. BPDC around FPDC of previous row. Working in BLO, sc in last 4, ch 1 and turn.

Row 5: Sc in BLO of 1^st 4. FPDC around BPDC of previous row changing to CC on last loop of dc. Drop MC to back.

With CC and working in both loops, dc in each of first 2, hdc in next, sc in next, ch 1 and skip next. *sc in next, hdc in next, dc in each of next 5, hdc in next, sc in next, ch 1 and skip next.

Rep from * until 4 stitches before cuff.

Sc in next, hdc in next, dc in each of next 2, changing to MC2 on last loop of last stitch. FPDC around next, sc in BLO of each of remaining 4 stitches. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 6 (WS): Sc in BLO of 1^st 4. BPDC around FPDC of previous row changing to CC. Drop MC2 on side facing you.

Working in both loops,dc in each of first 2, hdc in next, sc in next, ch 1 and skip next. *sc in next, hdc in next, dc in each of next 5, hdc in next, sc in next, ch 1 and skip next.

Rep from * until 4 stitches before cuff.

Sc in next, hdc in next, dc in each of last 2, changing to MC on last loop of last dc (drop CC on side facing you). BPDC around FPDC of previous row. Sc in BLO of last 4, ch 1 and turn.

Row 7: Sc in BLO of 1^st 4, FPDC around BPDC of previous row (do not change color).

Working in both loops, sc in each of next 4, dc down into skipped stitch of row 4. *Sc in each of next 9. Dc in skipped stitch on row 4.

Rep from * until 4 stitches before cuff.

Sc in each of last 4 changing to MC2 on last. FPDC around next, sc in BLO of each of remaining 4 stitches. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 8 (WS): Sc in BLO of 1^st 4. BPDC around FPDC of previous row changing to MC. Drop MC2 on side facing you.

Working in both loops, sc in each across until cuff. BPDC around FPDC of previous row. Working in BLO, sc in last 4, ch 1 and turn.

Repeat rows 1 to 8 sixteen more times. On last repeat stop at the end of row 7.

FINISHING

With cowl inside out, slip stitch through last row and FSC row to join sides together. Fasten off and weave in ends.
