I had a lot of fun designing this sun hat for myself and I love how it turned out!
I used a the Lily Sugar n’cream cotton yarn – one skein of white and one of red, white and blue ombre.
The colors in the ombre skein randomly pooled in a way that gives this hat splashes of color so I decided to name it the Color Splash Sun Hat.
This hat in these colors would be perfect to wear to Memorial Day, 4th July and Labor day events.
However this hat is sure to look great in any colors of your choice. Try a stripes color way instead of the ombre for a gradual vertically striped color change. Or, since this hat has texture, solids are sure to look great too!
This hat is an adult size, however, if you are wanting it in another size, just adjust the size of the crown circle by subtracting or adding rounds.

I love your awesome designs!
I love the idea of a summer crochet hat, I make a lot for winter but I’ve never made a sun hat. Pinning.
Thank you Kat! Your hat looks amazing, I love how crocheting bp creates that unique look. I really want to try crocheting your hat pattern today. Hopefully I can start this soon. I know I will be asking you questions especially when the bp starts! Thank you again for an amazing pattern. Amanda

Awesome hat! I’m bookmarking this page for future reference. Returning to crochet after a long hiatus. You have a new follower!
Hello. I haven’t been crocheting for very long. I do love the pattern and I’m in the process of making it, but got stuck! Please could you help?
Where you start the panel – and says repeat from * – I’m not sure about starting with the sl stitches and turn?
Thank you very much
Hi. I’ve added a photo of the panel in progress so you can see what it should look like. I’ve also updated the instruction to say sl st (slip stitch) in round 15. Have a look and let me know if it helps or not 🙂
That’s great, very helpful. Thank you very much. 😊
How would you adjust if you are using a different cotton yarn that is a bit thinner?
I belong to a crochet group and I shared this with the group, the hat is so adorable. Members of the group are having a hard time opening it. It is telling them its not a secure site,,,or a blank page. Not sure what is going on.
