Easter Bunny Hat

Here is my pattern for a cute bunny hat. The hat can be made in any size.

Start by making a hat from my pattern HERE or watch the video tutorial below and crochet along.

After you have completed the hat, follow the instructions below to make the ears.

Use a contrasting colour to make the inner ears. I decided to make my inner ears different colours. I used minty/light green yarn for one ear and light blue for the other.

To make the outer ear use the same colour yarn as your hat. The outer ear is made the same as the first two rounds of the inner ear but then continues to get bigger and then join to the inner ear piece.

Ears (Make 2)

Inner Ear

Chain 20

Rnd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hk. Sc in each of next 4 chains. Hdc in each of next 13 chains. 3 hdc in last chain. Working along the bottom of the foundation chain, hdc in each of the next 13 chains. Sc in each of the last 5.

Rnd 2: Ch1 and turn over. Sc in each of the next 5 stitches (don’t work into that first stitch since the ch1 counts as that stitch). Hdc in each of the next 27 stitches around. Sc in each of the next 6 stitches. Fasten off.

Outer Ear

Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 of inner ear but do not fasten off.

Rnd 3: Ch1 and turn over. Sc in the next stitch and each one around.

Rnd 4: Ch1 and turn over. Take inner ear piece and turn it over so that the working yarn tails are both in the top right corner. Starting in the next stitch, working through both thicknesses, hdc in each of the next 16 stitches. 2 hdc in each of the next 5 stitches. Hdc in each of the next 16 stitches. Slip stitch in the last stitch of the outer ear only and fasten off. Leave about 12 inch tail for sewing.

To attach the ears to your hat, fold the bottom of each ear into a ‘C’ shape and use safety pins to pin them in position. Thread your yarn through the needle and sew them to the hat.

Next we make the eyes. Cut black yarn to about 2-3ft and using your yarn needle attach with a knot at the back and sew a triangle outline pointing upward – 4 stitches wide and 2 rows high. Fill in the eye by sewing lines from one side to the other. Tie off the yarn on the back. Take a new piece of yarn and make the second eye in the same way 4 stitches across from the first eye.

Now we make the nose and mouth. Cut a piece of black yarn a little longer than you did for the eyes. Sew the outline of a downward pointing triangle – 1 row down from the eyes. Make it 4 stitches wide so it is positioned centrally between the two eyes. Fill it in in the same way. Starting at the bottom point of the nose sew 2 ‘V’ shapes, each 3 stitches wide and 2 rows high, to make a smiling mouth. Tie a knot on the back to secure the yarn.

Make sure all ends are secured with knots and weave them all in.
