Last month a friend asked me if I could crochet her a pink pussy cat hat for her to wear to the upcoming Women’s Rights March.
To give me an idea of what she wanted, she sent me some photos of ‘pussyhats’ she found for sale on Etsy. But, knowing that I love to design my own stuff, she gave me free reign of what I came up with for her.
The only real requirements was it had to be feminine colors and of course cat ears.
This design you see here is the first of two, very different, styles that I came up with. I’m still working on writing the pattern up for the second one and will have that available in the next week or two.
Having recently published my Alien Rainbow Beanie Hat, I wondered how the design would look with cat ears in the place of the antennae.
I set to work on the ears, figuring out how many stitches and when to increase in order to produce ear-like triangles.
On my first attempt they came out looking rather horn-ish so a frogging I did go. Tried again and was able to make them more triangular.
Next I needed to work out the total number of stitches needed in the round to make an adult size hat. I was able to use the measurements from the alien hat and only really had to decide where to place the stitches to achieve the correct circumference. The sum of the base of an ear, times two, plus the number across the crown of the hat.
For the colors I used what I had in my yarn stash, I picked out two different shades of pink (see this yarn on Amazon – affiliate link) and decided to mix a little purple in there. Of course, you can choose whatever colors you like.
This hat would look great in other colors, perhaps grays or oranges to make it look like a wolf, fox or tiger.
I’m giving you this spiral perky pussy cat hat pattern for free but if you prefer an ad-free printable pdf copy of this pattern I’ve made it available for purchase HERE.

Perky Pussyhat Crochet Pattern
Perky Pussyhat uses a seamless spiral design to form a perfectly proud pussycat hat and is a different take on the usual square hat design. This hat is one of two designs I came up with when asked by a friend to make her a hat for the upcoming Women’s Rights March. I took the concept of the pink pussyhat and put my own unique spin on it to create something similar yet a little different.
The pattern starts out by making the two ears which spiral down and then join together to form the top of the hat. The colors then continue to spiral together to make the body of the hat. The brim is then crocheted on over the ends of the body of the hat.
You are welcome to sell the items you make with this pattern, but please give me, Krazy Kabbage, a mention in your sales listing and provide a link to my website www.krazykabbage.com.
