Crochet Interlocking Hearts

Here is my pattern for some cute interlocking hearts. Perfect for Valentines Day! They can form a garland by linking several together. I’ve also written a pattern which can be used to incorporate them into bigger projects such as hats, scarves and blankets.
This is an intermediate pattern

Hook size – F/5 3.75mm

Yarn – Red Heart Super Saver or similar

Start with a slip knot and working loosely, chain 19. Chain 2 more and slipstitch in the back of the 2nd chain from the hook. Chain 4 more. If you want to connect to a previous heart drop the start of this chain down through the middle of the previous heart, making sure the heart is face up. Slip Stitch in the back loop of the 1st chain to form a ring.

Chain 1 and Sc in the same loop. Continue to work in the back loops of the foundation chain, Sc in each of the next 6 chains. 3 Sc in the next chain, Sc in each of the next 6 chains. 2 Sc in the next, 1 Sc in the next, 2 Sc in the next and 1 Sc in each of the next 2. You should have reached the top point of the heart, skip over it, 1 Sc in each of the next 2 chains, 2 Sc the next, 1 Sc in the last and slip stitch to join in the top of the first Sc. Tie off and weave in ends. Repeat this pattern to make another heart and link it as described above.

To make the border of the heart. Start at the bottom point of the first heart. Turn your work upside down and join with a slip stitch in the back loop of the middle of the 3 Scs. Continuing to work in the back loops only, Sc in the next stitch, Hdc in the next, Dc2tog the next 2 stitches. Find the bottom point of the next heart – the middle of the 3 Scs and count back 5. Tdc through the back loops of both hearts (the next stitch on the first and the 5th before the point on the 2nd). Working along the bottom of the second heart, still in the back loops only, Dc2tog, Hdc in the next, Sc in the next and Slst though the next (which should be the middle of those 3scs and the bottom point of the heart). Sc in the next stitch, Hdc in the next, dc2tog. Chain 3 for the corner.

Working along the side. Dc in each of the next 2 stitches. Hdc in the next, Sc in each of the next 2, Hdc in the next and chain 3 for the corner.

Working along the top. Hdc in the next stitch, Sc in each of the next 2, Hdc in each of the next 2, Sc in each of the next 2. Find the middle 2 stitches in the top of the next heart, count back 3. Hdc through both thicknesses. Sc in the next 2 stitches, Hdc in the next 2, Sc in the next 2, Hdc in the next and chain 3 for the corner.

Working along the side. Hdc in the next, Sc in each of the next 2, Hdc in the next, Dc in each of the next 2 and chain 3 for the corner.

Working along the bottom. Dc2tog, Hdc in the next, Sc in the next and Slst to join in the top of the 1st Sc, (through both loops). Round complete.

Next round, Chain 2. Working through both loops, Dc in top of next stitch and in each stitch along to the corner (you should have 11 DC including the Ch2). 2Dc in the chain space, chain 3, 2Dc in the chain space. Dc in the top of each stitch along the side (you should have a total of 8 stitches along the side) 2 Dc in chain space, chain 3, 2Dc in the chain space. Dc in the top of each stitch along the top. (you should have 17 DC along the top) 2 Dc in chain space, chain 3, 2Dc in the chain space. Dc in the top of each stitch along the side (you should have a total of 8 stitches along the side) 2 Dc in chain space, chain 3, 2Dc in the chain space. Dc in the top of each of the last 4 stitches and slst to join in the top of the 1st DC (you should have a total of 19 stitches on the bottom, 19 on the top and 10 on each side. Fasten off and weave in ends.

I hope you enjoyed this pattern. I’d love to see photos in the comments! Please share, Pin and link back here or to the videos on Youtube. Thank you!

UPDATE: I did a new version of this pattern since I realized the border on this one won’t work when extended because there is an extra stitch per heart on the bottom (sorry I’m new to designing – but I’m getting better!) The new version works really well for blankets. It also includes an easier way to make the hearts – same number of stitch so choose what you prefer. And a new video tutorial! Check it out HERE

If you’d like to feature this pattern on your website, you have my permission to use 1 photo as long as you provide a link back to my site.
