Start with CC1 and make a magic ring.
Rd 1: CH 2 and make 11 DC in ring, pull magic ring closed. Using CC2, SS the round closed through the top of the first DC – 12DC (The CH2 at the start of each round counts as a DC throughout this pattern)
Rd 2: CH 1 in CC2 and use CC1 for the 2nd CH 1. FPDC around the first DC using CC2 to pull through the last two loops of the FPDC. DC in the top of the next DC, change colour again on the last part of the DC, FPDC around the same DC. Continue around the circle so you have 1DC in CC2 followed 1FPDC in CC1. SS in top of first FPDC – 24DC (12 of each colour – see photos pink=black and white=orange)

Note: The CH2 at the beginning of each round is always in 2 colours (1CH CC2 followed by 1CH in CC1) until you reach the brim of the hat where it’s all in CC2. The SS to close each round is always in CC1. The FPDC should be in CC1 and the DCs in CC2. Change colours on the last loop of the FPDCs and on the last loop of the last DC before a FPDC.
Rd 3: CH 2 and *FPDC around FPDC of previous rd, DC in top of DC and DC in top of next FPDC; repeat from * around then SS in top of first FPDC – 36DC
Rd 4: CH 2 and *FPDC around FPDC of previous rd, DC in top of next 2 DCs, DC in top of next FPDC; repeat from * around then SS in top of first FPDC – 48DC
Rds 5-11: CH 2 and *FPDC around FPDC of previous rd, DC in top of next 3 DCs; repeat from * around then SS in top of first FPDC – 48DC
Note: Rows 5-11: Don’t DC in the top of the FPDC since we don’t want to continue the increase. Maintain 3 DCs between each FPDC.
At the end of Rd 11 we no longer need CC2 so it can be cut and secured.
Rd 12: (All stitches in CC1) CH1 and *FPSC around FPSC of previous rd, SC in top of next 3 SC; repeat from * around then SS in top of first FPSC and Fasten off – 48SC
